Green pressure-treated softwood fence boards, 16mm thick, in stock at TMG in Swalwell. Choose 150mm wide boards in 1.2m, 1.8m or 2.4m lengths, or 100mm wide boards in 1.8m. They are sold individually, so you can buy exactly what the job needs – from a few repair boards to a full new fence – and take local delivery across Newcastle, Gateshead, Tyneside, Northumberland and County Durham, or collect from the yard.

What are fence boards used for?

• Vertical boarded fences – fix boards to fence rails between fence posts for a solid or spaced boundary.
• Hit-and-miss fencing – alternate boards on each side of the rails for privacy with airflow, good in windy spots.
• Horizontal slatted screens – 1.8m and 2.4m boards fixed across posts for a modern look.
• Repairs – replace broken or rotten boards on an existing fence.
• Garden projects – bin stores, compost bays, planters and cladding.

Building an overlapping close-board fence? Choose feather edge boards instead. Add gravel boards along the bottom to keep the fence boards off wet ground.

How many fence boards do I need?

For a vertical fence, work it out per metre of fence run:

• 150mm boards butted together: about 7 per metre
• 150mm boards with a 25mm gap: about 6 per metre
• 100mm boards butted together: 10 per metre; with a 20mm gap, about 9 per metre

Match the length to the fence height: 1.2m for low front-garden fences, 1.8m for standard garden privacy, and 2.4m to cut down to a custom height or for horizontal slats. Delivered by our own drivers within 3–5 working days. Within 10 miles of our Swalwell yard: £10 delivery for orders under £75, or free for orders of £75 or more. Over 10 miles and up to 30 miles: £20 delivery for orders under £150, or free for orders of £150 or more. Distances are measured as a straight-line radius. Delivery is unavailable beyond 30 miles; collection is available from Swalwell.

How thick are your fence boards?
16mm, in green pressure-treated softwood.

What is the difference between fence boards and feather edge?
Fence boards are square-edged and the same thickness all the way across, so they can be butted or spaced. Feather edge tapers from one edge to the other and is overlapped to make a close-board fence.

Do they need treating?
They are already pressure treated. Brushing an end-grain preserver onto any cut ends helps them last.

Can I buy just a few boards?
Yes. Boards are sold individually, so you can order a handful for a repair.
