Weed control fabric can reduce weed growth, but it does not create a permanently weed-free garden. Its usefulness depends on the weeds already present, the place it is laid and the maintenance you are prepared to do.
What can it do?
A covering that blocks light can suppress growth below it. Annual weeds and established perennial weeds need different approaches: persistent roots can require repeated control. The RHS explains several options, including hand removal, mulching and temporary coverings, in its guide to non-chemical weed control.
Choose a method for the whole area. Fabric can be useful beneath a covered landscaping surface, while a regularly replanted bed may be easier to manage with weeding and an appropriate mulch.
Understand the limitations
Deal with existing weeds before laying a membrane. Keep edges, joins and planting openings maintained, and remove weeds that appear above the covering. Debris accumulating on a surface still needs clearing.
Woven polypropylene is plastic. It should not be described as biodegradable, chemical-free or automatically environmentally friendly. The RHS encourages reducing new plastic use and considering alternatives such as biodegradable weed coverings where appropriate.
Choose the correct membrane
Our Heavy Duty Weed Control Fabric is 100gsm woven polypropylene, available in three roll sizes:

Allow for overlaps, edges and cuts: a 10m² roll does not necessarily cover a 10m² project once these are included. Follow the product installation instructions for securing and covering the membrane.
A weed-suppression fabric should not be assumed to meet the filtration or separation specification for drainage or load-bearing construction. Ask your installer which type is needed.
